Stacey Robb

Stacey Robb has lived and travelled in various areas within Canada, always coming back to her rural hometown area of Wilton, Ontario. She creates to express the enjoyment of how she feels and to share that connection with her audience through her artistic style. Sometimes that includes using various techniques that are more common in other mediums than watercolour. Using patterns and line as well as textural impressions through eco printing and using external natural elements are some examples of this. Her formal education is as a research Biologist in freshwater ecology and in Education. After spending numerous years of research and hours making observations of nature in the environment around her, she brings her love of these areas to her audience through her art. She expresses her emotions and connections to her subject through her enjoyment and choice of colours, textures, brush strokes, curiosity and adventure.

She uses gestural shapes and lines of landscape and nature while being more abstracted and less representational. The decisions that she makes during this painting process are her decisions and convey how she sees and feels the world. She is a firm believer that we can all re-learn how to be creative and that we all have this creativeness inside us. As an educator, bringing that curiosity, playfulness and vulnerability forward in a safe space is key. She believes there is a connection between science and art and she has been enjoying sharing that connection through her paintings, Nature Journalling, teaching workshops and bringing this mindfulness practice to people, allowing them to slow down and connect with the spaces around them in a more observant manner.

She draws her inspiration from and values her connections to the land….water, woodlands, fields and the area of the Canadian Shield, provincial parks and farmland where she grew up. The pieces that she shares are chosen based on their energy, spirit and aliveness.
